The United States of America has 50 states in total, and every state has its own set of policies and procedures for opening up an LLC in their respective state. You would have to be very clear about what you want to get out of your LLC. This can be achieved by understanding the reason why you want to set up an LLC, and if it meets the requirements.
If the state doesn’t have a provision around opening an LLC of the respective style in their location, then you would have to go to a state that offers the service. This comes with the condition that there would be additional charges and you may be asked to abide by some norms that aren’t in line with your requirements.
There are chances that you may have to register your LLC/business as a foreign LLC which would add additional charges to your overall budget. You wouldn’t want that to happen, but if you plan to go ahead with it, then you must be aware of the charges of the respective state.
The average annual fee for an LLC in the United States of America is $91. While most states call it the Annual Report, it is called by other names, namely Annual Certificate, Annual List of Members, Annual Registration Fee, Biennial Report, Biennial Statement, Business Privilege Tax Return, Franchise Tax Report, Periodic Report, and many others depending on the state.
Now that you are familiar with the name of the annual report, let’s also look at the charges and other details that will come in handy when you take the first step to opening your LLC. So without further ado, let’s get down to business:
What’s the meaning of an LLC filing fee
Every state requires an LLC to pay a specific amount of money to register its business with the state. This amount, often referred to as the LLC filing fee is a one-time fee to be paid to the state. It’s clear that with this you don’t have to worry about paying it over and over yearly, but it also means that you would have to be compliant with the state laws to be able to apply for an LLC and finish your application.
What’s the difference between an LLC filing fee and the annual fee
As the name suggests, an LLC filing fee is a fee you pay once, whereas an annual fee is a recurring fee that you have to pay regularly to the state. The annual fee is required by the state every year or two years, depending on the respective state. You would have to ensure that you make the necessary payment without fail because failing to do so will result in your LLC getting dissolved in the respective state after a considerable amount of time. This is something that you wouldn’t want at any cost.
